2. Message from the Librarian:

It gives me much pleasure to welcome you to the Richard Ondeng Library website which is our virtual space in the global web of information. In this age of information explosion, the Library team will help you locate, select and acquire the information you need. The Library acquires both print and electronic resources that support the various academic programmes. The e-books and e-journals are accessible both onsite and offsite. The Richard Ondeng Library continues to partner with faculty in supporting the University’s curriculum through provision of high quality information resources. As a strong believer in open access, I encourage scholars to share their research with the rest of the world. Technology is there to complement and not replace the library and in this regard, I still encourage you to frequently visit our physical library that has thousands of print books and journals and other fantastic user facilities on the 1st floor of the library. Some of these facilities include private study carrels, theatre, e-resources lab, discussion rooms, etc. Considering the amount of information that is available on the web and in print format, the library endeavors to impact Information literacy skills to its users. Training is held in the library’s e-resources lab where users are taken through the Information literacy curriculum. Our Library actively participates in inter-library lending and students need to consult with the Library staff on the inter-library loan procedures. Does the Library have any future projections? Certainly! The role of the library is changing and the library will need to reinvent itself. New technological devices are being introduced on a daily basis and many library users get confused on what devices to pick and which ones to stay away from when it comes to information access through e-readers and other gadgets. Educating the users on this is an opportunity that the library plans to take advantage of in the near future. The information needs of users are also changing and therefore the library will strive to get at the heart of the things that matter most to users through conducting frequent library surveys. The data generated in these surveys will be useful to the University Management in decision making and allocation of resources.Enjoy browsing on our library website and see you soon in the physical library!
